6 ways to avoid job search failure

Searching for your first job or even a new job can be a nightmare, filled with stress, rejection and frustration. However, there are 6 things you can do in order to prevent your job search from going wrong. Many job seekers are quick to blame the current job market or economy when it comes to an unsuccessful job search, but perhaps its your strategy that needs to change.

ATTITUDE:

You may not be aware, but the success of your job search is mostly centered around your composure and attitude. Although it is easier said than done to stay positive when you are facing rejection after rejection. Finding a job or even getting an interview is not an over night thing, it can be a long process which requires patience and positive thinking. Getting frustrated is not the answer. However, the process can be disheartening at times which can all to often have a negative impact on your attitude. It is important to remember that your attitude is reflected in your applications, emails, online presence as well as your interview. Remember that others can sense your attitude so it is important to remain confident at all times. Rome was not built in a day, remember!

SOCIAL MEDIA:

It is important to be aware that it is now standard practice for employers to scan a potential employee before and after an interview. Therefore it is essential that your image on social media is not going to ruin your chances of getting an interview or even the job. In order to avoid this, it is perhaps ideal to create a professional profile on at least one of the social networking site such as Linkedin, Facebook or Twitter. Also it is perhaps worth typing your name into Google to see exactly what a potential employer would to see they were to do the same. Finally, check your Facebook privacy settings and get any compromising photos un-tagged by friends. Its better to be safe than sorry!

JOB BOARDS:

It is a common belief that job boards are the perfect way to find a job. This however, is not the case and can often be a waste of both time and energy. The sheer amount of  traffic (applicants) which flood these sites can often mean that your CV is over looked or even un-seen. Therefore, it is perhaps better to target niche job boards which focuses on the industry you wish to find a job in. These types of sites will have fewer candidates and will more likely get your CV noticed by a hiring manager.

CV:

It is important to remember that you are not the only applicant and that a hiring manager can receive hundreds for just 1 role. Therefore, hiring managers will take just seconds in deciding what pile your CV fits into. So how does your CV avoid the dreaded recycling bin?  Well in simple terms, avoid too much text, poor formatting, inappropriate content, grammatical mistakes and spelling errors. A CV should be a reflection of you and your skills and should always be relevant to the job that you are applying for. It should be concise and easy to read.
